Setting up camp felt awkward the first night at Sisters. I asked a couple locals where i can camp they said pretty much anywhere. First mention was homeless camp. I wasnt feeling it. I rather be isolated alone outside of town. I’m camped only like 50 feet outside the towns limits in stealth mode. There is a hug log that shed its bark in large pieces. Must have been a douglas fur. It provides stealth from one direction. I took the big bark pieces to build up a wall perpendicular to the log for another side of stealth. All my bright gear is mostly behind or hidden from the parameters of my camp spot. Theres a stump probably where the log came from covering some of the third side with one side completely exposed. I kept kicking myself for keeping my orange athelic moisture wicking tshirt. Its so bright I feel like it attracts to much attention. I had other moisture wicking tshirts to pick from. I found camoflange ducktape in my storage locker making me entertain camo everything with ducktape. My hammock tarp is green but has a huge eco logo on it in white which sticks out like a sore thumb. Im considering spray painting it camo. Using my walking stick and other miscellaneous equipment i failed epically making a sunroof today. I was pretty exhausted from the last few days. I did what they call a zero day on the appalachian trial. Thats when u hike 0 miles that day. The weather is descent. Evening and morning feel just about perfect. No clouds in sky until now. This time of year in OR the entire summer we usually get a drought with months of no rain which makes backpacking a easy peasy.
After sitting at the campsite for a full day and having my gear mostly hidden from plain site I took a quick walk to chevron using the spinket meant for rvs to fill up on water. My buddy carlos mentioned a friend named Gabriel many times over the last couple months who was interested in becoming a business partner and client. We finally got aquinted today so himself and carlos will drive from Prineville to Sisters to pick me up. We have a lot of similar interest and his willingness to show me around the area and all the jobs he is looking for help on will definitely enrich my travel journalism.
I wanted to stay here a while before i went to the next town. Ill have to come back. Tue buses to many places like Bend, Redmond, and Prineville are free I hear so travel this part of central OR will be pretty tight. When i started unpacking mixed up gear i was reminded how poorly my gear was stowed. I also found many discrepancies as I started sorting it out today. So many things need repair such as electrical, mechanical, sowing, patching, lubricated, cleaned, depackaged and copacetically packed to ensure safety of equipment and space optimization. My portable labority is looking like a cyclone hit. I took parts of my other rucksacks to make my main bag have more additions with attachable pockets, quick straps. Much of these additions are on the backburner. I feel like I should make my own backpack. I have some backpack designs I would like to try and other upgrades with the other gear. Im hopinh to innovate this industry. Hopefully get a new one sponsored and mod it up. Building the backpack setup to the ideal situation is like climbing mtn everest with big heavy weights on my legs. Preparation for international travel journalism and the US is proving to be a monumental task which will take a lot of precision work. Hopefully I will have proper rain gear before the rain season starts. It looks like this will be my last dryest month with rain season coming mid Oct. I’d like to continue this adventure indefinitely, but ive got to have a good enough setup to finish my graduate project while on the road,or take a break find a place and finish it up.
Im taking notes and thinking all the time about the gear and how to improve everything. The end goal is like a poccassio painting on steriods from the year 2200. Things should start getting more ridicolous as Im inching toward and exoskeleton aparatus. So many creative ideas for this legacy. The latter to climb toward thid goal can feel daunting but im take as many little steps as possible proving that when i set my mind to something i complete it. Each little step it seems opens a new pocket of creativity or event that slingshots me forward. Sometimes I wonder if the well will run dry in me to continue, but today im here and there are awesome rocks and gold to find. My art projects are getting more setup. Im trying to represent i guess u could say. The mechnomad aka. For some reason i was bais against natural bug spray and but i started researching how to make it and im totalky on board. Would like to make my own outdoor chemistry survival kit with a manual. I want that wow factor. My be my pride or ego a little bit but these ideas are game changers and could help us go back to natural healing. Many thoughts here. Im typing this from my phone. I plan on hetting attachments soon for it to make things easier. The phone desk type setup in mind gets me excited. Not sure if it will suffice for big engineering projects so more pondering to do on that front. One thing for sure is I need more bubble gum and paper clips. Trying to pit McGyver to same. Still cant get over how peaceful it is here. I think it will be strange building and exoskeleton and other robotic stuff but it seems necessary even if the apparatus is ridicolous. I can get stuck on trying to go ultra light with my backpack setup but making random systems at any weight for now is a step forward.
